Buehler is excited to announce that George Vander Voort will be joining the firm as an Exclusive Consultant.  He will also be premiering in his first Buehler Webinar on Dec. 2, 2020 with Dr. Mike Keeble. The topic will be Demystifying the Metallographic Challenges of Heat-Treated Parts. The topic is of interest to manufacturers in automotive, aerospace, medical device and other metal fabricators.

Mr. Vander Voort is a physical metallurgist and a world-wide leading expert in microstructural analysis, interpretation and measurement, he had served as Buehler’s Director of Research and Technology for over a decade. Buehler is a premier manufacturer of metallographic and hardness testing equipment and consumables for materials analysis of microstructures used in manufacturing production laboratories, universities and research/development organizations.

Vander Voort  will be working with the Laboratory Applications team, under Dr. Mike Keeble, US Laboratories and Technology Manager in Lake Bluff, IL. According to Dr. Keeble, “We are thrilled to have George back at Buehler. He will be an added resource to both our customers and the global Buehler team. With the addition of George, Buehler continues to work with the most qualified material scientists to assist customers with their applications and unique processes, provide offsite and onsite training, virtual presentations and webinars. Buehler is honored to welcome George back and we look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

In 2020, Vander Voort received the Distinguished Life Membership award from ASM International – a very select award, previously also won by Buehler leaders: Adolph Buehler in 1966 and Dan Albrecht in 1989. Vander Voort obtained his BS in Metallurgical Engineering in 1967 from Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University), and his MS in Metallurgy in 1974 from Lehigh University. He worked as a professional metallurgist at Bethlehem Steel (1967-1973), Homer Research Labs (1973-1983) and Carpenter Technology (1983-1996) before working with Buehler as Director of Research and Technology between 1996 and 2009.  During his tenure at Buehler, he made some very significant contributions, including producing the first version of the SumMet Guide, The Sum Of Our Experience A Guide to Materials Preparation & Analysis. Vander Voort has also authored more than 400 publications, 31 chapters of the ASM Handbooks, written his own book on Metallography and holds six patents.  He has been active in both ASTM and ASM International for many decades. His contributions to both have been extensive and he has received numerous distinctions in his field.
