Moving to consolidate warehousing operations in San Antonio, TX and Oklahoma City, OK, Cargill Protein announced plans Wednesday to create a centralized, regional warehouse in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. The company said the effort will boost its supply chain efficiency and better position Cargill to serve foodservice, retail, and food ingredients clients in the area.

“The DFW area was the logical choice for Cargill to centralize our warehousing operation as it has an excellent warehouse, distribution, and logistics infrastructure and major highways to all our key markets in the region,” Rick Johnson, Cargill Food Distribution general manager, said in a company press release.

Cargill said service to its customers will continue during the process. The warehouse will be managed by a contractor when it opens for operations in fall 2018.

“The move underscores Cargill’s commitment to design food distribution systems focused on delivering wholesome, sustainable, and affordable food to customers. It allows Cargill to scale our growth by providing customers greater capacity, more product variety and more efficient distribution,” said Johnson.

When the facility opens, it will also support the company’s value-added meat processing sites in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
