GEAPS/K-State Offer Basic Safety Course for Grain Industry

The Grain Elevator & Processing Society (GEAPS) and the Kansas State University Distance Education Program are offering a course, GEAPS 540: Entry Level Safety, covering basic safety concerns for the grain industry.

Running from October 30 through December 1, the online course will help participants identify the main risks of working in the industry, know the essential precautions, and understand the importance of company and facility safety and health procedures and policies.

“I took GEAPS 540 when I was new to the industry and needed an overview of important safety issues,” said Corey Bumgardner, elevator superintendent at Ardent Mills, in a GEAPS press release announcing the course. “It helped me understand what we have to deal with from a safety aspect, and how to balance safety with daily production.”

GEAPS 540 is one of six courses required to complete the Credential in Grain Operations Management. The organization and K-State are also offering three other courses this month.
