Industrial technology and services provider Baker Perkins recently opened its new Extrusion Innovation Centre in Peterborough, UK to assist customers in the development of new products and processes, produce samples, and conduct feasibility trials, the British company announced in a press release Tuesday.

Trials of materials for the chemical, plastics, pharmaceutical, packaging, and construction materials industries will be conducted at the site, which also features full powder coating production facilities, and research and development services.

The innovation center contains a MPX24 Integra twin-screw extruder with feeder, chill roll, and flaking unit, grinding, curing and spraying facilities, and a set of analytical instruments to examine quality and consistency.

A hot-melt extrusion process used in the MPX24 Integra works for applications that involve mixing and thermal processing a range of granules, pellets, and powders, the company said.
