Industrial gases manufacturer Air Products and Chemicals Inc.plans to build a new headquarters building near the location of company’s existing main office in the Lehigh Valley area in Pennsylvania, a press release announced Tuesday.

The company said it plans to break ground on the 50-acre parcel of land in March 2019. Slated for completion in mid-2021, the new headquarters site will house some 2000 workers. 

“From the beginning of this process to develop a new headquarters facility, we have never wavered in our commitment to remain in the Lehigh Valley. Now, we have made the location decision and we begin our preparations to build facilities that represent our world-class company,” said the firm’s chairman, president, and chief executive officer, Seifi Ghasemi, in a statement.

Air Products’ new building will contain administration offices and space for research and development activities. Operations at its current headquarters in Lehigh Valley will continue until the new facility opens. 

“The decision to leave our current headquarters location, with its rich history, was not one we made lightly,” Ghasemi stated. “But we believe our new location will afford us a special opportunity to modernize and optimize our office space and R&D facilities and invest in a work environment that motivates and energizes our employees.”
