#PowderJams: “Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen

Powder & Bulk Solids highlights the songs that strike a chord in the hearts of professionals who work with dry particulate and bulk solid materials.

Known for its thumping bass line and catchy chorus, Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” first hit the airwaves in 1980. The tune quickly became one of the English rock group’s most popular recordings, eventually climbing to the top of the Billboard Top 100 list.

The Cambridge English Dictionary defines the phrase “Bite the Dust” as a heavy fall, dying, or failure in an endeavor. Phrases.org.uk notes that the earliest written use of the expression was in the 1750 book, “Adventures of Gil Blas of Santillane,” by Scottish author Tobias Smollett.

In the powder and bulk solids industry, “Bites the Dust” may come into play when equipment malfunctions or goes out of service. Dust itself is a big safety risk to facilities that process or handle powders and bulk solids, requiring solutions like dust collectors and baghouses.
