Officials said a bearing malfunction may have caused a grain dust explosion last Friday afternoon at a Landus Cooperative facility in Templeton, IA that prompted the response of several area fire departments, news organization CBC Online reported 

The blast occurred in a grain leg as a railcar was being loaded, forcing the company to divert grain delivery trucks to other sites owned by Landus, according to the website’s coverage. Firefighters were called to the Landus site at about noon. 

Templeton Fire Chief Duane Irlbeck told CBC News that the explosion was minor and that no injuries were reported. The chief said workers do not appear to have been responsible for the incident. 

Area residents told the news organization that they could hear the sound of the blast a few blocks away from the facility.
