Dust Collection for Micro Beer Breweries

The increasing popularity of local micro brewed beer has resulted in over 4000 breweries in the U.S. Many of the breweries mill or crush the husks of barley kernels, on premises to extract sugars for the mash. The milling process produces considerable amounts of fine grain dust as a by-product. If the grain dust is allowed to exceed the permissible threshold in the air or flat surfaces in the brewery, a spark or flame can ignite the grain dust and cause an explosion. Many breweries have added an outdoor (for safety) dust collector that is ducted to a suction hood at the grain mill. A Sternvent model SPV0405, 5-HP, 2000-CFM vertical jet pulse cartridge-style dust collector was recently installed at a microbrewery in Indiana.

Sternvent Sternpulse jet pulse cartridge dust collectors are compact, easily maintained, energy-efficient solutions to in plant dust problems. Rated from 1500-8000 CFM, their proven vertical design and efficient operation make them an ideal choice for capturing fugitive dust from grain milling. They are available with 4, 6, 8, 12, and 16 cartridges, which are rail mounted and slide out for easy replacement. Features include all-welded, heavy-duty construction, as well as weatherproof epoxy primer and urethane enamel paint.
