RF Drying System for Temperature-Sensitive Materials

This new Radio Frequency (RF) drying system is used for rapidly drying temperature sensitive materials such as filter cake and granular or pelletized materials.

This system uses RF energy to uniformly heat a bed depth of conveyorized material and rapidly remove the water without overheating, at a fraction of the time and expense associated with conventional dryers.

The Macrowave RF drying system rapidly removes water from filter cake or other types of material using energy applied by radio waves at a frequency of 40.68 MHz. Featuring volumetric heating which keeps the temperature uniform throughout the filter cake to prevent overheating, this conveyorized dryer can be loaded at bed depths up to 10 in., depending upon the type of material.

Eliminating the long dwell time required by conventional surface heating methods, the system is a suitable replacement for tumble, spray, tray, spin flash, and belt/tunnel dryers. Typically requiring one-fifth the floor space of these conventional systems, this RF dryer can reduce labor and energy costs by up to 60%.

Evaluation of the process is available on a pilot system at the manufacturer's facility with as little as a 10-lb product sample.
