Fly Ash Drying and Beneficial Reuse
Schwing Bioset introduces its fluid bed drying technology for ponded fly ash drying

With ever-increasing Federal regulation and general public concern with ponding fly ash from coal-fired power plants, there is an increased interest in fly ash beneficial reuse. Examples of such beneficiation include: its substitution for Portland cement in concrete, brick manufacture, encapsulation in roofing materials, etc. However, before the ponded fly ash can be reused, it must first be removed from the pond, screened (for trash/tramp material), and dried. Schwing Bioset introduces its fluid bed drying technology for ponded fly ash drying. The technology uses “waste” plant energy to heat and dry the material via a combination of direct (convective) and indirect (conductive) heat transfer mechanisms, thereby enhancing the operation’s overall economics and efficiency.
