Heyl & Patterson to Present on Frac Sand Drying

Article-Heyl & Patterson to Present on Frac Sand Drying

Heyl & Patterson Inc., a world leader in thermal processing and bulk material handling systems, will present “Fluid Bed and Rotary Dryers for Frac Sand” at the 2015 Oilfield Minerals & Markets Forum on Thursday, May 28 at 4:30 pm CST at The Houstonian Hotel in Houston.

The Oilfield Minerals & Markets Forum covers global shale gas development, utilization, and outlook. The conference will be held May 27-29.

Heyl & Patterson’s presentation will discuss some of the processing equipment used prior to fracking operations. Sand is not used straight from the ground, but it is washed, dried, and screened to obtain the specific size needed. There are two types of equipment used for drying the sand -- fluid bed and rotary. Fluid bed dryers are more thermally efficient, while rotary dryers can accommodate variable moisture content and particle size.

Doug Spisak, director of proposals and technical sales, will present the topic. Spisak has been with Heyl & Patterson for 25 years, as chief proposal engineer, project manager, regional sales manager, and proposals manager. He holds a 1992 U.S. Patent for a method of soil decontamination, and is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and Process Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (PEMA). Spisak earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1984.
