One person died and two others received injuries after an explosion occurred Monday night at the SRF Ltd. chemical manufacturing plant in the Bharuch district of Gujarat, India, local news organizations reported.

“The blast occurred in a chemical tank in the premises of SRF company. One person working near the tank was killed, while two others received burn injuries and shifted to a hospital for treatment,” Bharuch District Superintendent of Police Rajendrasinh Chudasama told the Republic World. “The fire was quickly brought under control.”

The blast and fire happened in the P2 plant of the company’s Dahej Chemical Complex, according to coverage by The Hindu Business Line. SRF stated that no fire or emissions are impacting the surrounding area.

An investigation has been opened into the cause of the incident.

SRF is a manufacturer of fluorochemicals, specialty chemicals, packaging films, technical textiles, coated fabrics, and laminated fabrics, information on its website states. It operates 14 production facilities across four countries.
