Tata Chemicals Europe is working to restart production in part of its Lostock manufacturing plant in Northwich, UK that was impacted by a fire at the site last week, the company announced in an update on the incident this week.

“Following the fire, we suffered at part of our Lostock plant last Thursday, the team at Tata Chemicals Europe would like to confirm that all the people on the site were evacuated safely and there were no injuries sustained,” a company spokesperson said in a release Tuesday.

The blaze was quickly doused, and smoke was contained to the plant, according to Tata Chemicals. Production of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate resumed at the plant on March 12.

“In respect of the part of the plant impacted by the fire, our teams have worked throughout the weekend on the affected section and we expect to restart this part of the operation during the course of the next few days,” said the spokesperson. “In the meantime, our customers are being supplied from our substantial stocks, which means that we will have no difficulty in meeting all our customers’ demands for product.”

Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service, which attended the fire, said the blaze involved “electrical equipment” inside the building. The company is looking into the cause of the incident.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that it is unlikely that the cause of the blaze was an electrical fault, but this will be confirmed as soon as possible,” Tata Chemicals Europe said in a statement to Powder & Bulk Solids.
