Coatings, paints and specialty materials firm PPG said Wednesday that it has launched a new business unit, Traffic Solutions, that will produce pavement-marking products for a wide range of end-users.

The announcement comes on the heels of PPG’s acquisition of traffic safety solutions and pavement marking products maker Ennis-Flint last December. PPG’s new business unit will serve customers in the government, military, contracting, commercial infrastructure, engineering and architecture markets.

“We are excited about the new capabilities and growth opportunities in Traffic Solutions and the business unit’s complementary fit within PPG’s portfolio,” Michael McGarry, chairman and chief executive officer of PPG, said in a company release. “As we strive the enhance our current mobility technologies

PPG purchased Ennis-Flint for $1.15 billion, adding  traffic paint, hot-applied and performed thermoplastics, raised pavement markers, and intelligent transportation systems to its portfolio.

The new business unit will operate under PPG’s Performance Coatings segment.
