Five people were hurt in an explosion Monday night at the Westlake Chemical Lake Charles petrochemical complex in Sulphur, LA, local news organizations reported.

The blast occurred in an ethylene production unit at the complex at about 11 p.m. as a maintenance procedure was underway, company spokesperson Joe Anderpont told NBC News affiliate KPLC. Westlake described the explosion as a flash fire.

Five contract workers were taken to local hospitals for treatment, Louisiana State Police Trooper Derek Senegal said in Newsweek. The official said an investigation into the cause of the explosion has commenced.

Westlake’s Lake Charles complex has production assets for ethylene, polyethylene, styrene, and co-products.
