A fire ignited inside the FMC Corporation crop protection products formulation plant in Middleport, NY on Tuesday morning, according to a report in The Buffalo News.

Crews from several area fire departments were dispatched to the site at about 6 a.m. The company told the newspaper that the blaze originated in a small hot oil heater on the second floor of a structure at the site. A HAZMAT team also responded to the scene.

FMC’s statement said the fire was put out by a sprinkler system in the facility before flames damaged the structure and product.

No one was hurt during the incident.

FMC Corporation acquired the Middleport plant in 1947 from Niagara Sprayer Company, according to information on the firm’s website. The facility currently focuses on formulation of the company’s main agricultural crop protection product lines, including dustless powders, microencapsulated liquid, and flowable liquids.
