Specialty chemicals firm Evonik plans to expand its production capacity for TROGAMID CX brand transparent polyamides at its production complex in Marl, Germany in response to an uptick in global demand for high-performance polymers, the company announced in a release Monday.
“Expanding our capacities for transparent polyamides in Marl is a further step along our long-term growth track for high-performance polymers,” Dr. Ralf Düssel, the head of Evonik’s High Performance Polymers Business, said in a statement. “This will not only strengthen our market position as a reliable partner and solutions provider for specialty applications, but at the same time we will also be creating an important latitude for developing new products.”
Carrying out the project through targeted debottlenecking efforts, Evonik said the effort will double its current capacity for the material. TROGAMID CX products are used in the sports, leisure, automotive, medical technology and cosmetics industries in a wide range of products from goggle lenses to skin creams.
“We’ve been observing consistently high demand, especially in the consumer goods segment, for specialized material solutions that combine highest transparency, quality, and design freedom with the best processing characteristics,” said Dr. Iordanis Savvopoulos, the leader of the Granules & Compounds Product Line at Evonik, in the release. “The additional production capacity will allow us to provide our customers with long-term support for their growth.”
Completion of the project is slated for the first quarter of 2020.
