Employees at an AkzoNobel chemical plant on Highway 43 in Axis, AL put out an equipment fire on Monday, containing the flames before they damaged other parts of the facility, several local news organizations reported.

“Akzo-Nobel [sic] has reported that there was an equipment fire at their facility in Axis. There has been no release of or spill of toxic chemicals,” the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency said in a poston Facebook. “Residents in the area may see smoke resulting from the fire. We have been advised there is no threat to the public at this time.”

The blaze originated in the equipment and no injuries were reported during the incident, AkzoNobel spokesperson Kay Higby toldtelevision news station WKRG.

Reports said the cause of the fire is currently unknown.
