A small fire broke out in the Wacker Chemical silicones plant in Adrian, MI last Friday, prompting workers on site to evacuate the facility, local news organizations reported.
Crews responded to the site after the blaze ignited in a piece of mixing equipment in the site’s HCR building at about 8:20 a.m., the Adrian Daily-Telegram said, citing information from Raisin Township Fire Chief Jim Hannah and the Lenawee County Office of Emergency Management page on Facebook.
The flames were contained by 9:30 a.m. and workers were evacuated from the facility without injury, Wacker Corporate Communications Director Karen Manardo said in an interview with news radio station WLEN. No chemicals were released during the incident.
Opened as a silicones production plant in 1969, Wacker’s plant in Adrian is the firm’s oldest facility in the US, according to information on the company’s website. The site manufactures silicone raw materials, fluids, and emulsions and specialty silicones.
Wacker has opened an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
