The US Chemical Safety and Hazard Identification Board (CSB) announced this month that it is seeking to fill a chemical incident investigator position to serve as an expert in industrial chemical safety and conduct investigations on major incidents across the country.

The role involves surveying the sites of chemical incidents, working with local jurisdictional officials to secure the scene and evidence, collecting and recording incident data, interviewing witnesses, gathering physical evidence, and arranging for tests of equipment and evidence. In addition, the chemical incident investigator will evaluate and analyze the significance of evidence, methods used to gather evidence, and the sources of the evidence to ensure validity, substance, and reliability.

Chemical incident investigators also conduct safety advocacy activities by representing CSB at meetings of national and international public and private organizations. The position requires occasional travel.
