Emergency personnel responded to a chemical spill early Monday at the Enviro Tech Chemical Services (ETCS) chemical manufacturing plant in Levelland, TX.
Hockley County Emergency Management said in a Facebook post that the chemical has a strong “vinegar/pickle” odor and urged the public to avoid the area until the substance was diluted.
Parts of roadways near the plant’s location at the Industrial Rail Park were closed during the response. Crews later determined that the scene was safe and reopened traffic. An investigation into the spill has started.
ETCS invested $8 million to open the Levelland plant in 2019. The site is one of three manufacturing plants operated by the company, according to information on its website. Featuring an initial processing capacity of 10,000 tn/yr of raw materials, the location produces water treatment chemicals and no-rinse processing aids for the food and beverage industry.
