German chemicals firm BASF is moving to close down its manufacturing plant in West Memphis, AR, impacting 34 workers at the site, according to a report by television news station KAIT.
The company decided to shutter the facility because of the current market environment and a dip in demand for products made at the site. KAIT said BASF will relocate rheology modifiers and wetting agents to other production facilities.
Products manufactured at the site are used a wide range of applications, including industrial, paint, mining, plastics, energy, and municipal water treatment, a 2011 BASF press release noted.
BASF expects to complete the decommissioning and demolition process by 2022.
