German chemicals firm BASF has added a new production line at its plant in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia that doubles the site’s output of acrylic dispersions, a recent company release announced.

The line will manufacture new dispersions technologies sold under the Arronal EDGE, Acronal PLUS, Joncryl, and Acronal ECO product ranges to the coatings, construction, adhesives, and packaging industries.

Located in the Johor Port Free Trade Zone, BASF’s plant in Pasir Gudang is able to export its products to customers throughout the region.

“With proximity to three world-class ports, the expansion will be a key supply point for our customers in Malaysia, Singapore, and other ASEAN countries, also in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ),” said Peter van der Zwan, director of ASEAN & ANZ Dispersions & Resins for BASF, in a statement. “The first commercial quantities will be produced for our customers in March this year.”

The chemical company commenced operations on its first acrylics dispersions production line in the Pasir Gudang plant in 2015.

“As a growth business within BASF, we will continue to invest into enhancing our asset network for polymer dispersions in this region, which is strongly backed by our own R&D capabilities in Asia Pacific,” Jeff Knight, senior vice president, Dispersions & Resins, Asia Pacific for BASF, said in the release. “The new production line enables us to capture growth opportunities in the fast-growing emerging markets, as well as enhance our reliability toward our customers in ASEAN and ANZ.”
