Reports said a major fire ignited Saturday in a container at the Anupam Rasayan India Ltd chemical manufacturing facility.

A major fire ignited in Saturday evening in the Anupam Rasayan India Ltd. chemical manufacturing plant in the Sachin Gujarat Industrial Development Corp. (GIDC) area in Surat, India, local news organizations reported.

20 workers received injuries during the incident and four people lost their lives, The Indian Express detailed. The blaze started after an explosion, prompting workers to evacuate the facility.

The blast occurred in a chemical container around 10:30 p.m., news broadcaster NDTV said. Fire crews worked for about two hours to bring the fire under control. Anupam Rasayan India told the station that it is examining damage to the facility and the company will commence efforts to resume operations at the site soon.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion and blaze is underway, the chemicals maker said in a statement to DeshGujarat.com.

Anupam Rasayan India is a supplier of specialty chemicals to the Indian market, including specialty pigments and dyes, polymer additives, agrochemicals, and products used in personal care and pharmaceutical applications.
