A worker was severely injured after her hand became caught in a piece of machinery at a Schick razor blade factory in Milford, CT on Thursday morning, numerous local news media reports said.

Fire officials received a 911 call at about 9:20 a.m. for a female worker trapped in a machine at Schick Manufacturing Inc.’s Edgewell Personal Care plant in Milford, television news station WTNH said.

First responders labored for 17 minutes to free the woman’s right hand from the equipment, using a tourniquet to control bleeding from the injury. She was later taken to an area hospital.

The woman was performing “standard manufacturing” duties when the incident occurred, a Schick official said, the Hartford Courant reported.

Schick said it plans to investigate the injury and that it is working with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as the agency conducts its own inquiry.
