A 62-year-old worker was found dead in a hopper on Monday morning at an Atlanta Sand & Supply Co. plant in Roberta, GA, several news organizations reported.

Officers responded to a report of a person down the facility at about 5:20 a.m., finding the worker had fell into a sand hopper at the site, according to a report by the Macon [GA] Telegraph.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Crawford County deputy coroner.

The worker became “engulfed by sand” after falling into the hopper, reported local television news station WMAZ, citing information from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and the MSHA is conducting a separate investigation into the cause of the death.

The man’s body was sent to a local crime lab for an autopsy, WMAZ said.
