An explosion at a Mount Gilead, N.C. wood products plant Tuesday afternoon killed one worker and injured another, numerous local news organizations reported.

The explosion at Mohawk Industries’ Unilin Wood Products facility occurred at about 3 p.m., injuring the two workers. Responding EMS crews treated the men before they were transported to area hospitals.

The Asheville Courier-Tribune reported that one worker died early Wednesday morning, based on information via the North Carolina Department of Labor. Four fire departments responded to the fire, officials told the newspaper, safeguarding the plant in shifts through the night.

Mohawk Industries told local CBS Television News affiliate WFMY on Wednesday that the other employee was still receiving treatment in a trauma center.

The state’s occupational health agency is investigating the incident. Local media reports said the cause of the incident remains unknown.
