Natural pet food company WellPet LLC acquired WHIMZEES, a brand of natural dental dog chews manufactured by Paragon Pet Products in Veendam, Netherlands, the Tewksbury, MA-based company announced Tuesday.

The dog chews are made with healthy ingredients from natural sources and feature patented designs said to promote gum and dental health in dogs.

“This is a major growth opportunity for WellPet, and an exciting one,” said the company’s chief executive officer Camelle Kent in a statement. “Natural dental chews today represent a significant and fast-growing segment of the treats market, and WHIMZEES is an established leader in this category”

WHIMZEES joins WellPets existing brands Wellness, Old Mother Hubbard, Eagle Pack, Holistic Select, and Sojos.

“WellPet brings more resources for us internationally, which means more fun for pets. We’re thrilled about our new collaboration and see WellPet helping WHIMZEES grow to serve more pet families and bring more health, happiness and fun to dogs everywhere,” said the founder and chief executive officer of WHIMZEES Wim Pater in WellPet’s announcement.

Production of WHIMZEES, which are available in the U.S. at Petco, PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus, Pet Valu, and other retailers, will continue in the Netherlands.
