Viterra Inc. to Build High Throughput Elevator in Alberta

One of the largest grain companies in Canada, Viterra Inc., said it has obtained the required regulatory approvals to construct a new high throughput elevator in Vegreville, AB, with building slated to begin in spring 2017, the company announced Monday.

The Regina, SK-based Glencore Agriculture subsidiary said the move will help strengthen its position in northwest Alberta.

“We have a long and successful history in this area of Alberta, so we’re proud to continue supporting our local customers with a new facility that will allow us to provide the industry-leading standard of service that Viterra is known for,” Kyle Jeworski, president and chief executive officer for Viterra North America, said in a statement. “Our new elevator will position us to connect these customers to global markets, backed by the expertise of our staff and the full suite of online tools that are available exclusively to Viterra customers. It will also complement our strong port presence.”

Viterra said the elevator will have a storage capacity of 35,000 mt and the capability to load up to 130 railcars on a loop track. The company's release did not detail the price of the project.
