American snack brand Utz Quality Foods Inc. recently signed a definitive agreement to purchase the direct store delivery (DSD) snacks business – including the brands Snyder of Berlin, Erin’s, Hawaiian Snacks, Tim’s Cascade Snacks, and Husman’s – from Conagra Brands, the companies announced in a release Wednesday.

“We are excited about the opportunity to add these important brands and capabilities to our portfolio,” Utz Chief Executive Officer Dylan Lissette said in a statement. “These brands bring a strong consumer following and unique craft heritage. Their distribution and manufacturing capabilities, along with their customer relationships, enhance our ability to further grow our brand portfolio further west.”

The companies did not reveal the financial terms of the deal. Conagra acquired the DSD snack brands during its purchase of Pinnacle Foods in 2018.

“We continue to reshape our portfolio and focus our resources on priorities that support Conagra’s business strategy and create value for our shareholders,” Sean Connolly, president and chief executive officer of Conagra, said in the release. “While Conagra has a large and growing snacks business, we do not currently operate with a DSD model. We believe this business will have more opportunity for growth under Utz, and established DSD operator.”

Conagra and Utz expect the deal to close before the end of this year after customary closing conditions are completed.

This week, Conagra revealed plans to open a snack research and development facility, the Conagra Brands Center for Food Design, in Chicago.
