USDA Debuts $60M Grant Program for Specialty Crops
March 10, 2017
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) is debuting a grant funding program of more than $60 million for projects related to specialty crops including fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, and nursery crops, the agency announced March 7.
According to the AMS, the funding will go toward projects that involve research, food safety, sustainability, developing new and improved seed varieties and specialty crops, pest and disease control, child and adult nutrition, improving the efficiency of distribution systems, and helping firms comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
Those living within the United States and its territories can apply for the funding by the deadline, June 7, 2017. The grants are allocated based on a formula that takes each state and territory’s specialty crop acreage and production value.
Potential applicants should visit the AMS’ Specialty Crop Block Grant Program website for more information.
