American agribusiness The Andersons recently named James Pirolli as its new Ethanol Group president as the current holder of the role, Michael Irmen, prepares to retire this July, a company press release announced Monday.

The newly-appointed executive is slated to assume the new role on April 1 this year. Irmen plans to remain with the company for a period of time to assist in the transition and the startup of its ethanol-focused joint venture, ELEMENT LLC.

“We are extremely grateful for all the work Mike has done to grow our ethanol business,” The Andersons President and Chief Executive Officer Pat Bowe said in a statement. “Through his leadership, the Ethanol Group has achieved record performance in productivity, expanded its portfolio of high-value coproducts and entered into new markets.”

Irmen was named vice president of the group in 2012 and was promoted to president in 2016. He started his career at The Andersons as a grain trainee in 1977 and occupied a number of merchandising and risk management roles during his tenure.

The new Ethanol Group president worked for 13 years at Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) in grain, ethanol, and oilseed processing divisions and served as vice president of fuels for Kum & Go convenience stores in Des Moines, IA before joining The Andersons in 2017.

“Jim has extensive experience in the biofuels industry and has been an excellent addition to The Andersons,” Bowe said. “I am excited for him to join my leadership team and to continue serving the company as Ethanol Group president.”
