American coffee company Starbucks plans to invest $120 million to expand production at its Augusta, GA soluble coffee plant, a company press release announced Thursday.

Adding 140,000 sq ft to the facility’s existing 180,000-sq-ft footprint, Starbucks said the project stems from consumer demand and firm’s growth. Six new whole bean coffee roasters will be added, allowing Starbucks to provide packaged coffee to Starbucks store locations and retailers along the East Coast.

About 100 positions will be created at the Augusta plant as a result of the expansion. The company said the plant’s proximity to military base Fort Gordon offers Starbucks a skilled workforce at present and in the future.

“Because of the technical nature of our business here, we have recuited heavily for automation specialists, operators, mechanics, and technicians,” said Tim Filipowski, director of the Augusta plant, in a statement. “Generally, the folks coming out of the service have some or all of those experiences.”

Starbucks’ Augusta plant opened in 2012 and was the first plant owned by the company to produce soluble products, like VIA Instant and the coffee base for Frappuccino beverages sold in stores.

The company recently announced an additional expansion project at its coffee roasting plant and distribution center in Minden, NV.
