October 23, 2017
The world’s biggest privately-owned spice maker, The Fuchs Group, is acquiring UK herb and spice blending firm Bart Ingredients, the British firm announced via an Oct. 19 press release. The firms did not disclose the purchase price.
Based in Germany, Fuchs is bolstering its position in the UK seasonings market – Europe’s third largest market – as it eyes growth internationally, FoodBev Media reported Oct. 20. The British firm produces more than 500 products and employs some 180 workers. Last fiscal year, Bart brought in £25 million in revenue.
“The acquisition of Bart Ingredients complements our existing portfolio of businesses and secures more market coverage in line with our growth strategy,” said Nils Meyer-Pries, chief executive officer of the Fuchs Group, in a statement.
Bart Ingredients has introduced organic and Fair Trade products in the UK market in recent years, etching out a leadership position in the country. It is the second largest branded producer of herbs and spices in the UK, Fuchs said.
Headquartered in Bristol, UK, Bart was founded in 1963.
