Schwan’s Company acquired Better Baked Foods and Drayton Foods from NE Foods Inc., expanding the firm’s foothold in the U.S. pizza market for the second time this year, the Bloomington, MN-based company announced Monday.

Powder & Bulk Solids reported June 1 that Schwan’s acquired frozen pizza firm MamaRosa’s Pizza LLC, including a 160,000-sq-ft manufacturing plant in Sidney, OH.

“We are focused on adding to our capabilities and growing our share of the U.S. pizza market. We are extremely happy to add Better Baked Foods and Drayton Foods to our family of businesses as both are highly regarded for providing quality foods to their retail, food-service and home-delivery customers nationwide,” Dimitrios Smyrnios, chief executive officer of Schwan’s, said in a company press release.

Better Baked Foods, headquartered in North East, PA, produces pizza, French bread pizza, and sandwich products for retail and foodservice customers, including the Better Baked Classics, Papa Presto, and Zap-A-Snack brands. The company operates two production facilities in Pennsylvania and New York.

Drayton Foods is based in Fargo, ND and manufactures pizza crusts, dough balls, and dinner rolls for food industry clients.

Both of the acquired companies were subsidiaries of NE Foods Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
