American poultry producer Pilgrim’s Pride ordered a recall for 101,310 lbs of ready-to-eat breaded chicken patties produced at its Waco, TX plant over concerns that the products may be contaminated with rubber, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on Feb 16.

A customer issued a complaint about the tainted chicken to FSIS on Feb. 13, the agency said. Packed on Sept. 6, 2017, the patties were sold under the USDA’s commodity program and were distributed to schools and other institutions across the country.

“The introduction of the foreign material was due to an equipment failure at the facility,” an FSIS press release said.

FSIS said it has received no reports of adverse reactions to the tainted Pilgrim’s Pride chicken, but advises against consuming the products.

Impacted products have the mark “P-20727” in the USDA inspection mark.
