Olam Cocoa, part of the Olam Group, opened its Cocoa Innovation Centre (CIC) in Willowbrook, IL on April 27 to create innovations for the North American market, the company announced in a press statement.

Providing recipe refinement and reformulation services, proof of concept opportunities, and assisting in the development of new beverage, cereal, chocolate confectionery, dairy, biscuits, bakery, and ice cream products, Olam’s facility in Illinois is one of six of the company’s innovation centers globally.

“The facility will also host regular educational and application-specific seminars as part of a range of services designed to greatly reduce product development cycle times and help customers keep pace with changing consumer tastes and market trends,” Rinus Heemskerk, global head of product development at Olam Cocoa said in a statement.

The announcement of the new Olam innovation center coincided with the debut of a new cocoa product brand for the North American and Asia-Pacific markets.

“The North American market continues to see growing demand for products containing cocoa as exemplified by the recent projection that the US chocolate market’s retail value sales will grow by 9.9% from 2016 to 2021,” said Matthias Richter, vice president of cocoa for North America at Olam, in the release. “As experience by our customer’s at today’s opening, this Cocoa Innovation Centre is a valuable resource that will help them to maximize opportunities related to these demand increases.”

Olam describes itself as the “world’s foremost” supplier of cocoa beans and cocoa products.
