The Omaha, NE area office of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently formed an alliance with the Nebraska Safety Council, Great Plains Safety and Health Organization, and National Safety Council Nebraska to educate and protect workers across various industries in Nebraska, the agency announced in a March 22 press release.

Concentrating the meat packing industry, the two-year alliance will focus on common workplace hazards like slips, trips, and falls, noise, energy control, machine guarding, electric, process safety management, back injuries, repetitive motion disorders, and ergonomic-related threats.

“Workplace safety is achieved when everyone works together to recognize hazards and follow safety protocols and procedures,” said Jeff Funke, OSHA area director in Omaha, in a statement. “OSHA has found an alliance like this sets the standard for sharing best practices, educating employers and workers, and ensuring that safety is not compromised on the job.”

Members of the alliance in Nebraska will participate in forums, discussions, or stake holder meetings to review goals quarterly and discuss best practices.

OSHA’s alliance program allows a variety of stakeholders like trade and professional organizations to develop common approaches to compliance and worker safety.
