New CEO to Take Helm of Pilgrim’s Pride

The board of poultry and prepared foods firm Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation recently named Jayson Penn as the firm’s new chief executive officer and president as the company’s current top executive prepares to retire.

“Jayson Penn has enjoyed a distinguished career in the poultry industry and has played an integral role in the success of Pilgrim’s over the last eight years,” Board Chairman Gilberto Tomazoni said in a company press release Friday. “Since joining the company in March 2011, Jayson has exemplified the leadership qualities, passion to succeed and business acumen that make him an ideal candidate to assume this role.”

Bill Lovette, who was named president and CEO of the firm in January 2011, will step down, but remain available in a strategic advisory capacity to Pilgrim’s Pride through July 2020. During his tenure, he increased annual net revenue from $6.9 billion to $10.9 billion and assisted in strengthening Pilgrim’s position in the global food market.

“His legacy at Pilgrim’s will endure through the strong management team and unique business platform he developed, which will position the company for continued growth and success,” said Tomazoni.

The new president and CEO most recently occupied the role of President, Pilgrim’s USA. Over his three decades of experience, Penn has held management positions at a number of prominent poultry firms and senior management roles within Pilgrim’s. He also served on the board of directors and executive committee of the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council and the National Chicken Council.

Penn assumed the new role on Thursday.
