Snack foods and confectionery firm Mondelez International held an inauguration ceremony on Wednesday to mark the opening of its new Technical Center in Thane, Maharashtra, India that will help the firm to develop new products and solutions for its Chocolate and Beverages brands.

The company said its $15 million center, one of three Technical Centers in the AMEA region, assists the firm in improving packaging, customer service, and productivity and shows the importance of India as a market.

“With these Techncal Centers, we’re focusing our investment in research, equipment, and capabilities, driving innovation to accelerate our growth,” Rob Hargrove, executive vice president of research, development, and quality at Mondelez, said in a press release. “Our RDQ hubs will improve speed, efficiency, and effectiveness, while increased scale will enable us to address evolving consumer needs more quickly.”

About 150 scientists, developers, engineers, analytical chemists, and other professionals will work at the 12,000-sq-m site, which includes a pilot plant, packaging creative studio, and laboratories for research and development activities.

Mondelez operates eight Technical Centers across its global footprint.
