D. Thomas Marsh, president and CEO of Centrotrade Minerals and Metals Inc. in Chesapeake, VA, has started his term as 2017 chairman of the ASTM International board of directors.
ASTM International’s board is made up of 25 leaders from a broad variety of companies, associations, and government bodies worldwide. In addition to Centrotrade, this includes organizations such as the Copper Development Association Inc., Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. (Japan), BP America Inc., and many others. Several members are based outside the U.S.
“As part of a multinational with operations in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, I see first-hand the importance of ASTM’s global reach and how its standards support supply chains,” Marsh says. “I’m humbled and excited to serve in this position.”
Marsh has served in his current role since 1999. He directs day-to-day operations, provides technical, regulatory, and standards organization oversight to sister groups in Europe and Asia, and more. Marsh previously served as the laboratory and technical services manager for Ansell Inc., and then president of the Ore and Chemical Corp.
An ASTM International member since 1990, Marsh serves as chairman of Committee on Rubber and Rubber-like Materials (D11), and is a member of committees on Sports Equipment, Playing Surfaces, and Facilities (F08), and Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment (F23). He previously served a term on the ASTM International Committee on Technical Committee Operations from 2007 to 2009. Committee D11 has honored him with a Distinguished Service Award for his contributions.
Marsh is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Management Association, the Ohio Rubber Group, and the Rubber Trade Association of North America, where he is a member of the board of directors and a past president.
Marsh holds a general sciences degree from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree in business management from Liberty University.
