A worker was crushed to death at a Purolator Inc. facility in Etobicoke, ON Tuesday while working to clear a jam in a conveyor belt system, several local news organizations reported.

“This morning one of our brothers at the Ontario hub was killed after being caught up in a conveyor belt. Our deepest sympathies to his family and friends,” read a post on a Facebook group page for employees of Purolator, Canada’s largest courier service.

First responders were called to the site at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, finding the worker, said to be about 50 years old, unconscious, reported news website InsideToronto.com. He was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead.

Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu reaffirmed the circumstances of the man’s death to InsideToronto.com: “The man got stick on the conveyor belt.”

An unnamed representative of Toronto Paramedic Services suggested to the news website that the death may not be completely due to an industrial accident.

“I do not believe it was a result of an industrial accident directly,” said the spokesperson. “There seems to be some medical issues as well.”
