American specialty chemicals manufacturer The Lubrizol Corporation is expanding its global manufacturing footprint with the addition of a new TPU production line at the firm’s plant in Songjiang, China. The company announced Tuesday that the new asset is expected to become operational this month.

“We have seen strong opportunities and broad growth in Asia and Greater China in recent years, and our continued investment will enable further customization of materials to the specific needs of customers and markets,” Lubrizol Engineered Polymers Regional Business Director Jane Cai said in a release.

The opening of the new TPU line comes a year after the firm inaugurated a new compounding line at the Songjiang facility. Lubrizol’s projects in China come as the company is actively investing in the expansion and improvement of its facilities around the world.

“We see a very bright outlook for growth, not just in Asia, but globally. Market trends are well-aligned with our innovation and material replacement strategies and we see growing demand for high performance, customized materials and more sustainable solutions,” Gabe Rhoads, general manager of Lubrizol Engineered Polymers, said in a statement. “We continue to invest in capabilities and capacity to support our customers and markets, maintaining our position as a reliable, high quality solutions provider.”

The company’s release did not specify the financial terms of the investment.
