Kraft Heinz Cuts 200 Jobs in North America
March 27, 2017
About 200 white-collar employees of Kraft Heinz Co. based in the United States and Canada were laid off last week as the food company endeavors to cut costs, numerous news media organizations reported March 24.
The job cuts, which impact a number of employees at the firm’s co-headquarters locations in Chicago and Pittsburgh, were a “difficult but necessary decision,” a Kraft Heinz spokesperson told the Milwaukee Business Journal.
“The company is offering substantial severance packages along with outplacement services to help affected employees pursue new career opportunities,” the company said in a statement, the Journal reported. “We regret the impact this decision has on employees and their families. We appreciate the many contributions our colleagues have made to our company. As always, we are committed to treating all employees with the utmost respect and dignity throughout this process.”
Since the 2015 merger between Kraft Foods and H.J. Heinz Co., administrative and production changes have been ongoing.
“As a result of our business consolidation in August 2016, Kraft Heinz is now operating more efficiently and effectively, allowing the company to reinvest in our brands and our business in ways that benefit our consumers,” Michael Mullen, senior vice president of corporate and government affairs, said the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s coverage of the layoffs.
The company currently employs about 41,000 employees around the world.
