Dallas, TX-based Kimberly-Clark appointed Michael D. Hsu, presently serving as group president of North American Consumer Products, to the company’s board of directors as its president and chief operating officer (COO), the company announced by press release Wednesday.

The new board member, set to join the organization by Jan. 1, 2017, will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Kimberly-Clark’s business units, spearheading the company’s global innovation efforts, and managing marketing and supply chains, the company said. Hsu will report to the board’s chief executive officer and chairman of the board Thomas J. Falk.

“Mike is an outstanding leader with a passion for our business. He has a long track record of building great teams and delivering strong results at K-C and elsewhere in the consumer packed goods industry,” said Falk in a statement. “I’m excited to work closely with Mike in his new role as we continue to execute our long-range Global Business Plan.”

The company said it is “evolving its business structure” to place greater emphasis on its international businesses, with its regional businesses in Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and its K-C North America and K-C Professional units, reporting directly to Hsu.

“I’m excited to continue to work with Tom, the senior executive team, and employees throughout Kimberly-Clark to deliver long-term shareholder value as we lead the world in providing essentials for a better life,” said a statement by Hsu.

He joined the Kimberly-Clark in 2012 and presently is in charge of the company’s $8 million North American personal care and consumer tissue businesses. The company’s press release said Hsu has “reinvigorated the North American business,” delivered “excellent” financial performance, bolstered K-C’s market shares, and fostered improvements in innovation, marketing and sales.

Prior to his time at K-C, Hsu worked in leadership roles at Kraft Foods.
