Animal feed producer Kent Nutrition Group (KNG) held a ceremony on Sept. 14 to break ground on a $37 million expansion project of its feed mill in Sheldon, IA, the company announced by press release.

Operated by a subsidiary, Deluxe Feeds Inc., the 20-month project is expected to be completed by late 2019. Included in Kent Nutrition’s plan for the site are five new pellet mills, two new processing lines, the installation of high-efficiency packaging equipment, robotic palletizers, and other equipment, and the construction of a 50,000-sq-ft warehouse space, Kent Nutrition said in a June 22 press release announcing the project.

“We have been making continuous improvements in our various facilities in order to deliver the quality products and services that our customers expect from our Kent brand,” said Mike Gauss, vice president of operations at KNG, in a statement. “This new, state-of-the-art feed mill with its extended capabilities will increase capacity and versatility, so we can continue to produce our quality animal nutrition products.”

The plant will serve swine, dairy, and beef producers in southeastern South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, and northwest Iowa. KNG acquired Deluxe Feeds in September 2016.

“As one of the top commercial animal-producing regions in the country, this expansion will allow us to grow our business in order to be more responsive to our customers’ changing needs and provide them with trusted brands, quality products, and outstanding service,” said John Thorpe, Kent Nutrition Group’s president, in the company’s June 22 release.
