Global ingredients solutions firm Ingredion Incorporated plans to invest $10 million to expand capacity at its facility in North Charleston, SC., doubling the firms exports from the Port of Charleston when the project reaches completion, a press release from the South Carolina Department of Commerce announced Friday.

“With a pro-business environment, skilled workforce and excellent location, North Charleston is a great fit for Ingredion. One of the outstanding features of the area is the superior transportation that the Port of Charleston offers,” Ingredion Executive Vice President of Global Specialties and President of Americas Jim Zallie said in a statement. “Reliable transportation is essential to our business. We need a smooth-functioning system to deliver the raw materials used in our products, as well as to deliver finished product to our customers. The proximity to the Port of Charleston is a clear advantage.”

About five new jobs will be created as a result of the project, the release said. Ingredion has maintained a presence in North Charleston since 1988.
