Global ingredient solutions provider Ingredion Inc. completed the acquisition of Sun Flour Industry Co. Ltd., a rice starch and rice flour company based in Thailand for undisclosed terms, the Westchester, IL company announced Thursday.

“This acquisition not only supports Ingredion’s global strategy to increase our higher-value specialty ingredients portfolio, it also strengthens our capability to produce clean label starches, a growing category,” said Jorgen Kokke, senior vice president and president of Asia-Pacific and EMEA at Ingredion, in a statement.

The company said its latest acquisition brings its total number of production facilities in Thailand to four, cumulatively employing about 870 workers.

Kokke said consumer demand was a main driving factor behind the purchase of the firm.

“There is an increased demand for foods that are perceived as more natural and wholesome, and rice is a versatile, on-trend ingredient that addresses those demands,” he said.
