Confectionery and snack manufacturer The Hershey Company plans to hold a ground-breaking ceremony this Friday to mark the beginning of construction on a new $60 million in a new Kit Kat production line at its Hazelton, PA plant, according to a Wilkes-Barre Times Leader report Wednesday.

Hershey officials told the Times Leader that the new production line will boost sales of Kit Kat bars and result in the creation of 111 new positions at the site, including production operators and controls specialists.

The plant manufactures Cadbury, Kit Kat, and Caramello candies, according to the company’s website. Opened by Cadbury in 1974, the size of the facility has quadrupled since it was acquired by Hershey in 1988, according to the website of Can Do Inc., a Hazelton-based economic development organization.

In 2013, Hershey announced that its plant in Hazelton had earned Zero-Waste-to-Landfill (ZWL) status.
