Hain Celestial Sheds Two Canadian Brands

Organic and natural products company The Hain Celestial Group Inc. is selling its Casbah brand to U.S. Durum and its Europe’s Best brand to Nature’s Touch Frozen Foods as part of the company’s attempts to streamline and simplify its portfolio, a company press release said Wednesday.

“These two Canadian strategic brand divestitures represent another important step in the execution of our transformational strategic plan by further simplifying the portfolio and organization and improving our margins and cash flow,” Mark L. Schiller, president and chief executive officer of Hain Celestial, said in a statement. “The transactions allow us to focus more resources against fewer, bigger opportunities which will drive our long-term financial performance.”

The Casbah brand includes Mediterranean-inspired vegetarian prepared mixes and side dishes, like couscous, rice pilaf, and tabouli, according to information on Hain Celestial’s website. The Europe’s Best brand produces frozen vegetables and fruits.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
